Baptisms/Christenings and Dedications
Child Baptism:
We love welcoming families into the life of our church through baptism and dedication services. A baptism (sometimes called a christening and means the same thing) is a special celebration where we give thanks for the gift of a child and welcome them into the family of the Church.
In a baptism service, we welcome a child into the family of God and celebrate the promises made by parents, godparents and the wider church to support them as they grow in faith. We pray for the parents promising to nurture their child in the faith and pray for God’s love and blessing to surround their family throughout their life.
A Dedication Service or an Act of Thanksgiving is a beautiful opportunity for families to bring their child before God, give thanks for their life, and ask for God’s blessing and guidance.
Whether you are exploring baptism or dedication, we would love to hear from you and talk through what these special celebrations might look like for your family. You will receive a warm welcome as we share in this important moment with you.
Adult Baptism:
Baptism is not just for babies; it is a beautiful expression and meaningful step for adults who wish to declare their faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. Through baptism, we remember God’s love, forgiveness and grace, and symbolically share in the death and new life of Christ. It is a moment of commitment, belonging and a new beginning as part of God’s family and the life of the Church.
Baptisms can take place in different ways. Traditionally, we baptise by sprinkling or pouring water from the font, but baptism by full immersion can also be arranged.
All baptism and dedication services take place during the normal morning service.
If you are considering baptism for yourself or your child, we would love to talk with you and explore what this special step of faith might mean for you. Please get in touch with the minister, Rev Sally Thornton, who will explore the options available with you.
